The FMS Student Showcase on October 28th was a tremendous success. Thank you to all of the parents who came out to support our Falcons!

Our students rose to the occasion, demonstrating the preparedness, adaptability, and positive communication required to succeed in this environment. This type of Presentation of Learning requires students to move beyond simply knowing the material to having the ability to speak and explain their work with clarity. The positivity and engagement your children showed proves the value of learning experiences that are social and student-driven.

Our success was reflected in the wide variety of student work, from presentations about learning experiences in Fairfield's Podcast Studio and Cornerstone Farm (spaces supported by the Henrico Education Foundation) to a virtual Breakout.edu challenge made possible through a grant from the Burns, McDonnell Foundation.

Exhibits demonstrated student skill across subjects, featuring a morpheme English activity using Little Bits, a handmade compass from Social Studies, Lego Spike robotics, and the winner of Henrico's first Minecraft Build Competition (supported by the Fairfield PTSO).

We also announced a future STEAM In Sports Innovation Lab, which will include a professional-grade golf simulator, thanks to another Henrico Education Foundation grant; all these experiences, including the coordination of the Showcase itself, were entirely student-led, affirming that everything at Fairfield is a learning experience focused on growth and making our school better.

This event was made possible by the commitment of our teachers, who nominated over 60 students based on their confidence in the showcase model and their students' communication skills. Additionally, the "audience" was composed of teachers who voluntarily dedicated valuable class time to bring their 8th-block classes to participate as observers.

This level of faculty support affirms that at Fairfield, building real-world communication and presentation skills is an educational priority as important as any daily lesson.
