YAY DANA GAINES! Dana Gaines, a registrar at Fairfield Middle School, is today's "Yay of the Day" honoree. Superintendent Amy Cashwell honored her recently at Fairfield.

YAYWORTHY:

Nominator Tiffany Morgan said,

“She has a heart of gold and cares for our students as if they were her own children.

“Hair is always at the forefront when it comes to getting ready for school for our young African American students. With a campus-style school, the weather is not always cooperative with natural hair styles, which quite a few of our students wear. We have many that come to school with a variety of challenges and struggles each and every day. When their hair is not like THEY would like it to be or in need of some attention, it can be a major distraction and, at times, a disruption to their day when others notice. Mrs. Gaines often has students who report directly to her or are sent by a teacher to sit in her chair as soon as they get off the bus to braid two French braids, repair a ponytail, smooth out the edges of their hairline or simply brush up their hair all before the tardy bell rings for advisory. Without question or judgment, she welcomes them with warmth and tends to their hair with love and grace. Once, she arranged to wash a student's hair and styled it, which rarely happens for this young lady. Within minutes, the student is groomed and ready for their day, with a completely changed mood. A head full of shiny hair gives us confidence and makes us shine too — that's what Mrs. Gaines does for our students. She is much more to Fairfield Middle School than just our school registrar — she is the heart and spirit of this campus. Her efforts and kindness have not gone unnoticed, and I am so grateful to have her on our team!”

Thank you for all you do, Dana Gaines, to make a positive difference and move HCPS forward!
