Summer Enrichment & Reinforcement Courses

Summer school looks a little different this year.  There are a couple of options for students this summer:  Summer recovery courses are the traditional summer school classes for students who fail one or two core subjects.  This year the tuition is FREE and students who fail a course will receive a final failure letter next week with instructions on how to enroll in summer recovery courses.  Students who fail one or two courses have to pass the courses in summer school for promotion to the next grade level.  Any student who fails 3 or 4 core subjects will be retained.

Summer reinforcement math & English courses are designed for students who PASS their 2020-2021 math and/or English class and would like to reinforce skills and strengthen their understanding of what they were taught this year.    Students have the opportunity to receive teacher-led, in-person, or virtual learning for the following courses: Middle School Math 6, Math 7, Math 8, English 6, English 7 and English 8.  There is also a creative writing/public speaking course that falls under the reinforcement courses middle school students can sign up for as well.  They will explore the techniques used in writing short stories, plays and poetry.  It will also focus on public speaking skills, exploration of dramatic skills such as improvisation, gestures and voice projection.  Students will have the opportunity to write scenes, dialogue and speeches.  Registration ends on June 22.  The link to sign up for the reinforcement or creative writing/public speaking courses is here:

The CTE poly tech courses are also available for middle school students.  Middle school students can take career/technical education courses at Hermitage or Highland Springs High School in the following areas:  automotive technology, computer systems technology, cosmetology, criminal justice, early childhood education, electricity & cabling, nurse aide, veterinary science, hospitality/tourism/catering and radio broadcasting.  Registration ends on June 18 and the tuition is $50.  The link to register can be found here:

An extended list of summer camps can be found here.  If you have any questions about the HCPS summer recovery or reinforcement programs, please reach out to your child’s grade level school counselor.
